—— (2.0L) Diesel Engine Won "Engine of the Year"

On September 9, 2013, the 12th International Exhibition on Internal Combustion Engine was grandly held at China National Convention Center. Hawtai also joined the exhibition with its core technical products including newly developed gasoline engines and diesel engines. Of particular note, its flagship product -- OED483Q (2.0L) Diesel Engine -- won "Engine of the Year" for diesel-fuelled cars in the engine selection organized by China Automotive News and China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association. Hawtai rose as the most dazzling star in the exhibition.

New Gasoline and Diesel Engines Début

At the exhibition, Hawtai displayed seven diesel engines at various capacities --1.0L, 1.4L, 1.5L, 2.0L, 2.5L and 3.0L. 1.0L, 1.4L and undisclosed1.2L small diesel engines are the latest achievement of OED Power Train under Hawtai Motor. According to a OED official, the new 1.4L engine is likely to replace its 1.5L competitor (45KW/L) with a power of 54.3KW/L. It is estimated that these small diesel engines will be equipped in Hawtai A0, A and other small urban SUV models.

The official also mentioned that, 2.4L OED4G24 Gasoline Engine which made its first public appearance is a gasoline direct injection engine jointly developed with the world-class design house META from Germany. The patented engine has integrated many new technologies, and meets advanced domestic and international standards in power performance, fuel economy and emission. With a power of 147KW and a torque of 250 N•m, the engine is the fastest naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, and will be soon mounted in such major models as New Boliger, New Santa Fe and C36.

Ideal Green Diesel Engine Supported by Italian VM Technology

In the 2013 engine selection organized by China Automotive News and China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, OED483Q (2.0L) Diesel Engine won "Engine of the Year" for diesel-fuelled cars. Based on the clean diesel engine technology imported from VM in 2006, and taking into account China's national conditions and user demands, Hawtai developed the product, bringing its technical merit, reliability and applicability to a new high. VM, a company dedicated to the design and manufacturing of clean power engines, invented Italy's first diesel engine as early as in 1947, and the engine was then widely used around the world. VM products have been widely adopted by many world-renowned auto brands like Alfa Romeo, Land Rover, Ford and Chrysler.

OED483Q engine adopts the latest common rail direct injection (CRDI), variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) and advanced exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and reaches EU IV emission standard (available to EU V). It boasts advantages like high environmental values, low fuel consumption, strong power and large torque. As compared with other petrol-powered car in its class, it can help reduce fuel consumption by 30%, and carbon dioxide emission by 25%, and increase torque by 50%. The engine also boasts excellent power performance, with a power of 55.25KW/L, 6% higher than Audi A6 2.7TDI engine. It can realize a maximum torque of 310 N.m at 2000 RPM, which surpasses that of 3.0L naturally aspirated petrol-power engine. This is no doubt a good thing for users which value both power performance and fuel economy. This example of green diesel engine is now applied to Boliger, Santa Fe and New Santa Fe SUV and B11.

Years of Research and Development Start to Deliver Benefits

Hawtai has identified a unique development path since its inception. When most Chinese auto brands gave preference to traditional gasoline engines, Hawtai foresightedly targeted clean diesel engines which can realize an energy efficiency almost 30% higher than traditional ones. Hawtai management not only sees big trends but also has a good plan. If 12 million passenger vehicles are added in China every year and 30% are powered by diesel, China can reduce fuel consumption by 3.6 million tons a year, and at least 36 million tons in ten years, equivalent to the annual production of Daqing Oil Field. Hawtai believes that diesel-powered passenger cars provide the most feasible and the quickest way for China to realize energy saving and emission reduction now and in the future.

China has several other diesel engine producers like Foton Cummins, Yunnei Power and JMC. Yet only a few can produce the whole series diesel engines up to EU V standard, and OED is among them. Hawtai has independently developed and produced eight (1.0L-3.0L) OED diesel power assemblies, and is reaping benefits from its years of hard work.

Hawtai has entered into agreements concerning the supply of engine or automatic transmission with a dozen car manufacturers, including BAIC, SAIC MOTOR, SGMW, ROEWE, LIFAN and JMC. SGMW alone will purchase 300,000-400,00 engines. Military vehicles which require high power and non-flammable fuel are an another huge potential market for diesel engines.

In fact, Hawtai targets not only the Chinese market for its diesel engines and vehicles. Given high production cost, VM chooses to purchase Hawtai clean diesel engines and sell them back to Europe. A French car producer has reached preliminary cooperation with Hawtai, equipping all its cars made in China -- about 1 million-- with Hawtai automatic transmission. If Hawtai transmission works well, the company will use Hawtai transmission for their 3 million cars across the globe. Just like the European market, the Russian market also favors diesel-powered engines. With improved technical content, Hawtai diesel engines can avoid difficult engine start in cold weather, and realizes fuel economy and high cost effectiveness. Therefore, they are popular in countries and regions in Russia and Angola.

Countries around the world are delivering on their responsibilities of protecting the earth, and many in Europe have long since adopted and promoted diesel-powered vehicles. China has issued a series of policies and measures for energy conservation and environmental protection. As clean diesel engine is the best way for China to realize the goal, Hawtai will remain committed to green development path.
